Millies first agility lesson! :-)

Ive bitten the bullet - I have always wanted to try agility with Millie but my confidence held me back. We tried a local club last year only lasted 2 weeks as the structure of the class didn't suit us.

We have joined up with a larger agility group which used KC recognized equipment and im pleased to say we thoroughly enjoyed our first lesson. It was a one2one lesson which was fab and Millie seemed to really enjoy herself and quickly settled into the noisy environment.

We had a chance to try jumps, first one, then two with a corner (which we eventually managed!) and three jumps in a row which Millie sped over. She went through a closed tunnel (the type with material covering one end) and a open tunnel, she also tackled the dog walk confidently and seemed to love the A frame. They have weave poles for beginners which started wide and eventually pull then in until the dog in confident - Was so proud of Millie.

I have a couple of videos and some pictures :-) I know it more me which needs the training not Millie. For instance I kept using the word 'over' for jumping over something as I know its a command Millie knows but the trainer said I need to use my body language to show Millie the way - but I'm sure itl all come together in time. We have only had one lesson

Apparently Millie has a certain 'spring' in her step and they were pleasantly surprised we tackled so much in only one lesson. So proud of my mongrel

Ok so a couple of videos:

Me directing Millie through the weave

Millie going alone through the poles:

jumping: (I was letting Millie down on this one lol)

On the dog walk:

Thank You

Re: Millies first agility lesson! :-)

Looking at those pictures is getting me excited about starting back next weekend! We've had a break over the past year or so but i've really missed it and so will be sacrificing my Sundays again (a reason I stopped doing it as I like my weekends free).

Glad you enjoyed it, it's very addictive!

Thank You This one isn't a competitive class - just for fun but the people who run it compete and do sessions where competing dogs practice. But it isn't aimed at people who want to get into it competitively if that makes sense. Its £5 a session (Normally 45 minutes)- pay as you go. Although Millie had a 30 minute one2one lesson for her first week. I was hesitant to go for a pay up front course as I cant always guarantee im free on a Saturday.

hmmm, now that sounds the sort of thing..... where did you look for classes? i don't want to compete, i don't know about Trouble but i don't think i'd be good enough, just thought Trouble might like the thinking and working and might like some her time again-i think she looks at Stark sometimes like 'you're very fun and everything but when are you going home so i can have my mummy back???'

Re: Millies first agility lesson! :-)

She looks like she's doing really well!
And glad you're enjoying it...and I know you always say it - but Millie is waaay smaller than she is in my head.

We've been really enjoying agility with ours, it's scary how quickly they progress, even with just one session a week - can't wait til it's not winter though and I can make it through a session where I don't end up covered in mud and sliding around...

Re: Millies first agility lesson! :-)

Well Done to both of you keep up the good work.

Would love to do agility but after Duke running into the jumps, refusing to do the tunnel but loving the weaves I decided it wasn't for us and would stick to flyball where he does jump over the jumps

Clover would excell at it but not quite old enough and hasn't got any patience to wait for mum so think she can stick with flyball aswell also I don't think the world of agility's ready for her flyball just copes and that's only because it's hers and Duke's club

Keep pictures coming.
