Re: Agility classes in Essex?
agilitynet.com is a really good place to look/ask on the forum. However I didn't find it until I'd already started agility. I just googled agility class and my area and checked out the websites that it suggested.
I'd look for small class sizes so you know that you're getting individual teaching tailored to your dog. One that specifies reward based training would be good (they might not think to advertise it but ask before you sign up). It can be good if the training is attached to a club but not necessarily part of a club at first. As with any type of training, do your homework, speak to the trainers, ask about the set up, ask how they teach things, what they'd do if.... try to find someone who knows about the specific class/club - do they recommend it? There's a club near me that sounded great on paper but I met someone by chance while my dog was still too young and she said she'd been to it twice and left when they said she should rap the dog's underjaw with a stick if it didn't immediately drop the toy when told. No way I was taking my dog anywhere near that club. Good luck and I hope you and your dog enjoy agility even half as much as we do ![]() |

Re: Agility classes in Essex?
What part of Essex are you in?
I co-own a club, but we train in Southminster, out on the Dengie peninsular and we only do a starter course about once a year. Burnham and District, they train near the old A13 in the winter and out past Cold Norton in the summer. Colchester, but they have long waiting lists, I have supposedly been on a list for my trained dog for 18 months! Stonebridge train at Earles Colne, I contacted them for training also, they said they didn't have any spaces in classes, but could do 1-2-1 and then might be able to fit me in a class after assessing us. Redgates train at Saffron Waldon. Or Breeze agility near Margeretting. These are the clubs that I know about, there are others, but I don't know so much about them, don't know people that train at them. Or if you're near Grays way, I know of a club just across the bridge in Dartford. If you want to know any more information about any of these clubs pm me.

Re: Agility classes in Essex?
Was going to say the same thing, what part of Essex as it is quite a large county!
I go to Redgates near Saffron Walden, very nice, friendly club. Another one is near Rayleigh, Dog Training Essex | Pet Behaviour Services | Dog Training Classes | Obedience Classes | Pets in Partnership Essex Essex Fliers : Essex Flyers Dog Agility - Welcome

Re: Agility classes in Essex?
Thank you for the replies. Yes you're right Essex is a big county, I should have been a bit more specific, sorry! We are in Harlow. I did a google search and after reading the websites I'm interested in Essex Flyers and The Essex Dog Training Centre. Just waiting to hear back from Essex Flyers to see if I can pop along on Saturday and watch for a bit, 1) to see if it's something Belle could/would do and 2) to gauge how I feel about them.
Many thanks for your help. |

Have you heard anything back? If you are in Harlow you are not far from me! I am in Bishop's Stortford. Redgates have just moved ground, and are just outside Dunmow now. They may be running something for beginners again, now they are reorganising classes on the new field. I think there is also a group near Spellbrook, but don't know the details off the top of my head, but will try and find the details.
