Oscar's starting agility on Wednesday!

Oscar has just turned a year old and OH and I are taking him to agility for the first time on Wednesday. None of us have ever done it before so we're pretty excited and would be grateful for any advice on getting ready for his first class

Re: Oscar's starting agility on Wednesday!

Hi hope you all have a great time, the main things for starting out at Agility are your dog , sitting when asked, and at least a fairly good recall, although in all the excitement of being with other dogs this sometimes goes off alitlle bit,
But hes only a youngster and i should think all the other dogs will be the same
I go Agility training every week, my dog Jack and i just do it for a fun time together,
Please let us know how you get on .I wear trainers and dont forget to take either treats or your dogs fav toy as rewards.

Re: Oscar's starting agility on Wednesday!

Thanks for the tips, Hazel. Oscar has a good sit and is pretty good on recall, except when something very exciting is happening to distract him! I'm sure he'll be harder to recall than usual, but OH and I will both be there so between us I'm sure we can keep him moderately well behaved!

Love the picture! I'll try to get some of Oscar tomorrow

How exciting, I'd love to hear how you get on. I'm going to start Kenzie at agility in January so would love to know how Oscar finds it.

good luck, Rolo is learning rally obedience at the moment, it helps keep them focussed.

Not sure if we would go on an do agility, he is still a little too young at the moment.

Re: Oscar's starting agility on Wednesday!

Thanks, everyone. We're really looking forward to it! I'll let you know how it goes afterwards.

Rolosmum, I've never heard of rally obedience but I just googled it and it sounds fun. Seems like it would require quite a few more obedience commands (turning in different directions etc.) than Oscar knows at the moment though. Perhaps something for the future
