fly ball and agility

hi, ive been pondering over wether to train my GSD pup in either fly ball or agility as i think she would love to do them and i think its a really good way to bond with your dog. my question is what are the requirements for them???
min age?
do they have to be KC reg?

any advice is much appreciated

Re: fly ball and agility

wakefield dog club ran both flyball and agility classes and the certainly had teams running in BFA flyball, hopefully they still do. There are 2 types of flyball for one you have to have the dog registered or it might be you with the BFA, although I don't think you have to be to compete at starters, but you do in division, for the other your dog has to be reg with the KC, but breed or activity register will do, so any dog can compete.
Agility dogs have to be kc'd but as above breed or activity.
Most classes will let you start agility at about 12 months, although they need to be 18 months to compete, but there is a lot of work to do first, some will have pre-agility classes to teach control etc.
Flyball, until you dog is old enough to take part work on the love of the tennis ball, the recall and the retrieve, when we ran flyball classes I was amazed by how many people wanted to do flyball when their dog had no interest in a ball, and no recall !!

Well no really - dogs only have to be KC registered if you want to compete with them at KC shows. If you want to just train, or only compete at non KC affilliated shows such as UKA, they don't have to be KC registered. The KC activities register for dogs not registered by breed costs £12.

Yes you are quite right, I always think people mean they want to compete when they ask about doing a dog sport
