Photos of Agility

We had such fun at Agility today - Woody (and me) are still learning.

I'm finding it tough for him to look forward - he always looks back at me for commands - even though he knows the names of the osbstacles and I call them in advance.

Any hints and tips would be very welcome.

Here are a few photos...

Bumble has to really stomp on the see-saw or it wont go down

Brilliant photos! Did you start throwing treats over the jumps when you started so he went over by himself? Maybe you could go back to that, or alternatively, do you look at him whilst he's looking at you? (I do it all the time because I'm scared of standing on him) If you can look where you're headed he might stop doing it. Other wise I'm not sure We've not long been doing it either

Re: Photos of Agility

Thanks for the compliments and tips

When we first started I used treats - but then he started heading towards my hands for the treat - then I threw his toy which he loved and worked to a point. However he is so fast, and if I throw the toy slightly too early he will run round the obstacles to get it.

He generally not too bad on the jumps it's the other obstacles that he looks at me when his gone over or through them.

Next time I go I will be sure to look forward as I am sure it is all down to me. Whenever he goes wrong it's always something I'm doing wrong or when I hesitate.

I do classes once a week and then have an hours session of private practise with a friend.

I don't intend to do competition, although my trainer thinks he will be very good, it's all for good fun, both of us really enjoy it !

Great pics.

If he is toy motivated you need to throw the toy at exactly the right time so he is commited to the obstacle in front of him, so it goes over his head and lands in front of him as he goes ove a jump, etc, if you're timing isn't good (especially sometimes when you're running) then get a friend to throw it for you.

Don't worry about it, I know that feeling well We've just upped ours to 4 hours a week - he loves it but I'm crawling round by the end

Love to see some more photos of him jumping etc.

Think o/ps advice is brilliant about getting a friend to help with the timing

Thanks everyone for the tips, I will give them all a try.

4 hours a week is a lot, I'm not surprised you're crawling around - do you go all the time with a trainer or by yourself? I think I need to get some equipment and practise in my garden as my agility is a fair distance travelling.

I'm out all day today but will upload more photos of him jumping in the next couple of days...

Have a great day....

Re: Photos of Agility

My dog used to watch me at agility so i now tell him, "go, go ,go," and it means for him just to keep going ahead.

Super pics - you can see how much Woody's having a wonderful time.

Yes know what you mean about them being fast... I never could run and my bitch was a maniac.

I didn't have lessons but had a fair bit of equipment at home (in fact ended up with everything) and what I did with her was to work on a circle ie jump - see-saw - jump - jump - dog walk - jump - tunnel and so on. I'd place a jump fairly close after the contacts and also low height and just say 'over' so that she didn't have time to look at me.
