seriously considering agility

Last week whilst talking to our trainer about recall with bella she mentioned she used a local agility group and it helped enormously with her dogs recall and obedience as it built a strong bond between them and she suggested that bella would really enjoy it and it would help us with working together and in turn better our relationship and recall (along side recall training)

So I have found the local one and Im very impressed by what Im reading and seeing and Ive asked to go along and watch a class next week with a view to doing a taster class the following week.

My main "concern" is I don't have a big enough garden to train at home would this be a real issue or am I just making a mountain out of a mole hill!! I mean I wouldn't mind buying items and taking them to the local field and doing it there if needs be. Or will just doing it at classes and keeping it fun be sufficient.

xx

Re: seriously considering agility

That shouldn't be a problem at first anyway. I've seen a few beagles run if you can get their noses off the floor and they're in good shape they're pretty good. It does help build a relationship and beagles are so food orientated they enjoy doing it for treats

Re: seriously considering agility

Ive been watching beagles on youtube doing agility and I know ill never be as good as that but just to watch was amazing and the mental and physical stimulation for her would be brilliant. The classes are all fun based no competition and bell is really good at playing games in the woods ie hiding behind logs and she comes and finds us etc and the other big bonus is socialising with other dogs for her as we still meet no one on walks

You never know. If nothing else most dogs really enjoy it and it will be good stimulation for her

beaglebarmy will become famous soon enough
Re: seriously considering agility

My little girl Beagle LOVES her agility!! I'm sure Bella would enjoy it too. We got into it by accident really, went to a charity dog show and there was a £1 a go agility course there. Feebs went round like she'd been doing it all her life, ears flying in the breeze, no one could believe it

Having said that, my other Beagle - a boy - hates agility. He thinks it's very dangerous to take more than two paws off the ground at one time

Beagles are so social, a meet up with all those friends will be just heaven for Bella - she'll love it!

Re: seriously considering agility

Sorry hun just noticed this we have been doing agility with buster for just over a year. His recall is getting much better! He loves agility so for him its his reward for returning. Sure some days he loves it others its just a battle. Suppose its like employment

agility has been amazing for us - take a look on Facebook you'll find the only issue we have is that he's so fast we need to learn to think at busters speed - fast, furious and co contacts whatsoever

you'll soon learn bella can fly

Re: seriously considering agility

Bumble absolutely loves it (sorry this wont be beagle related ) and he actually wags his tail when he sees the equipment.

My gardens teeny but we won some equipment and I've been taking it to the park and the beach and such like. We only won it the other week and he's been to 4 agility classes now but he didn't forget in the mean time so I'd still say once a week would be fine. We've been three times in 5 days now though

I hope you both love it

Em

Our class is fun, we got the weave poles right now as Freddie's weak on them. Just short little tries with them though, we've been warned about over-training putting off the dogs even BC's.

If you enjoy it, but find the best class you can first, then there's bound to be a club or meet, as everyone has similar problems. I am certainly not going to be building a custom course for 1 dog
