Flyball Advice- How long did it take your dog to reach competition stage.

I am very Frustated at the moment all the other dogs are ready for competition this year even the newbies and mines decided to start barking at other dogs at training as his jealous and cant get his own way tugging at lead because he wants to run in a team with them but can't be trusted, so wont be ready this spring/summer now and his chase instict too high to risk even putting him in a team with/against other dogs at competiton stage,he has to be ran alone, looking at a few years of hard work and training before his at competition stage, need some advice guys i really don't wanna give up as he enjoys it and so do i when his being good but is it all worth it or shall i just quit while i am ahead as i dont want other dogs with potential leaving because of him? He has got the potential but the behavioural issues around other dogs need correcting first,he has good and bad weeks when i can see competition potential and others where i wished i'd stayed home. I wish i had a crystal ball so i could see into the future at the moment its stalemate i dont seem to be getting anywhere fast he has a few good weeks when i can see him reaching competition stage but then the bad behaviour barking at other dogs competing as part of a team starts again putting me back to square one which means it will never happen as cant take an naughty dog to competitions so i don't feel his progressing as fast as he could be and other younger dogs that haven't been attending training as long are already at competiton stage. Its my fault not the trainers i am just frustated and feel i am wasting my time if he isnt going to progress to next stage but this we won't know till later in the year , i wish i wasn't so impatient only been going since last year but i want it to happen now not in 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10+ years time. Can anyone offer some advice, his a nuetuered at 9mnths german shephard border collie cross whose now nearly 4(June).

.

He's probably barking at the other dogs due to excitement (not jelousy). Sounds as if he really loves his flyball. Don't give up, it may just take you a little longer to get there. Remember, the dog doesn't know if he's in a team or not--he just enjoys it anyway!

I don't know think this will be any help, but I wanted to share

The first dog I did flyball with was absolutly brilliant. He learned fast, was very keen, but at the same time he had enough self control to focus all his attention on what he was doing. Took me about 6 months till he was competition ready.

Another of my dogs was also really keen. Really keen. Really, really keen! He went crazy in the car when we approached the training field. He also, like my other dog, picked up very quickly what he had to do. Unfortunatly, he had very little self control or focus. Sometimes the dog in the next lane would attract his attention and he would change lanes- generally getting the ball before the other dog! Sometimes, he would return with the correct ball and continue on...and on..and on, till he met someone (human or dog--he wasn't fussy) he could show the ball to -"how clever am I?"

I gave up EVER being able to join a team

unfortunately i am no longer attending training sessions with my dog his gonna miss it, until i can find a new club in E.sussex(Not Powerpaws) as he didnt fit in with the team and i,ve been asked to take a break for a few months as theres no more they can do with him due to his lack of focus, i would like to continue and proof them wrong and was thinking about setting up my own team but looks expensive,Cheapest jumps i,ve seen is £120 on google.
