Agility Grade 1

Unfortunately we didn't get into our local Agility Club and the other nearest one is too far so we are going solo. We attend a training class one day a week but they do not compete. I know that Bo needs to be measured and at least 18 months old before she can enter a show but how do you go about it on your own. Where do we start?

Re: Agility Grade 1

Are you going to be competing at KC shows, UKA or Independant shows. I only compete at KC shows, I believe UKA have nursery classes from 15 months old and independant shows all have their own rules. To compete at KC shows you need to get them measured by a KC approved measurer from 15 months old (before if obviously large), you need an agility record book before you get them measured ( The Kennel Club ), UKA have there own measurers at there own shows, if you compete at both you. If you have a local show to you it's worth going along to watch, if you and your dog have never competed before you start at grade 1, then need either 1 agility win or 3 jumping wins to go up to grade 2.

Make sure you are training all the equipment properly, like weave entry. What way are you teaching things like weaves and contacts? There's more than 1 way, as long as you are being consistant.
