Breed for a useful dog and you often get a beautiful, useful dog... breed only for a beautiful dog and you are on your own in the useful department.

Sometimes things are common for good reasons, you know

I saw loads of BC's yesterday mad keen to go with total competitive intensity, whereas the other breeds were often just obviously having non-serious fun. One Kelpie I think but was just there in pen around a tent, not competing.

I noticed how much easier the slower small dogs like JRT's are, or JRT/Collie mix to keep up with easing positioning and control on course. Even the GSD's looked lumbering and slow, it was actually quite shocking to witness how stupid fast the BC's are round the ring, what have we let ourselves in for?

I'm glad I've done lots of work on "Wait" & "Stop" already

Fun article why you don't want a BC The "truth" About Border Collies :-P - Border Collie Mania Forum. Yes, I am in the "Church of the Divine Border Collie" I have used my dogs eye to gently shift deer (offleash from edge of flight distance) to clear the route for a Cairn Terrier and other walkers.

Re: Breeds for agility. Please help.

Have you thought about a vizsla ? 2 made the scottish team this year. Soft natured dogs, with loads of energy and smart. I have started with my youngster and she is picking it up very quickly, she has some turn of speed too. they're a non aggressive breed. Tho a HPR type, if you buy from a non working home, you wouldn't have to worry about the 'nose' coming into play, as they lose it after 3rd gen if not kept working. The dog would be quite happy to jog with you, they have loads of stamina
