Flyball - who here competes?

Does anyone here compete at Flyball Comps? Which club/region are you from?

I've been to a few comps now and enjoy being nosey about other teams and where they're from!

Re: Flyball - who here competes?

I'm training with Essex Flyball teams, I've only been 3 times, they've asked me to compete, but all the shows they've talked about I'm already competing at an agility show, hopefully I'll be able to get to a show soon!

Wow, the high flyers! I was watching them run in Division 1 at the weekend - very impressive stuff Have you decided not to compete or are you not ready yet?

Fast learner! You'll have to clear your diary for next year - flyball is far more important than agility

We train with Red Rose in Lancashire. Selma's only been going for 5 weeks so she's been running in the Starters team - far more relaxed than the Open divisions but I still get super nervous at races

Re: Flyball - who here competes?

The High Flyers are a great team - I think they are currently seeded as third with the BFA so I've been really lucky that they are so near by.

I don't think Toby (my dog) will be able to match the speeds of a young border collie but .... he's doing VERY well at present. He is so ball focussed that he is off like a shot once it's is turn to run! If there is a chance that we can compete at some stage then I definitely would, I think I'd get quite addicted.

He has picked it up so quickly & loves it. When we turn the corner to the village green where we train he gets so excited.

I've watched quite a video clips on Youtube & it is amazing watching the dogs run.

Hopefully I'm going to watch the High Flyers compete at the BFA championships in Warwarkshire. Is anyone else going?

Re: Flyball - who here competes?

It is strangely addictive, spending hours standing in a field somewhere watching dogs from goodness knows where, barking and running It's hypnotic
The comps have a really friendly atmosphere so as beginners we felt very comfortable (not like some other more cliquee dog events we've experienced!)

It sounds like Toby is going to love Flyball even if he doesn't make it to the wuthering heights of Div 1. Some of our better dogs are into their 10's now and some have retired from open and gone back into starters so that they can still compete but without the pressure to perform. So plenty of time to him to hone his skills!

Isn't it just!!! It's lovely to watch all the dogs having such a fantastic time - they all seem to love it! I didn't realise how much I would get in to it.

We were timing our runs the other week & I was over the moon when Toby managed to beat his previous best time.

Am really looking forward to watching the competition next week

We're not up to the stage where we time our runs, I'm still impressed with Selma if she brings the ball back and doesn't lie down at the box and start chewing it!

You'll love watching the top divisions, some of the races are really down to the wire ... have fun
