Chinny q

my friend owns a rescue centre and she had 2 chinchillas come in serpeately - from differant places. One is male, one is female. Both are about one. We introduced them to each other and the female attacked the male. The are bothevery friendly to people but don't like other chins. They are happy and playful and don't seem at all bothered by being alone.

I am hoping to rehome one of them (which ever one my sister doesn't have. I was speaking to a breeder and he said that although they love to climb, they fall easily so, a huge cage is not ideal.

For one chincilla, (if i took out the tubes) would this be a suitable cage?

As chins are territorial you cannot simply put 2 together and hope they will get on as its very doubtful it will happen as you have found out. You need to introduce them slowly with 2 cages side by side for a number of weeks / months . You can swop them over into one anothers cage to allow them to get used to the others scent. Then give them a supervised playtime in a safe neutral area ( not where their cages are ) it may take a few weeks or even months before the accept one another

However if these chins have come in as rescues/rehomes and the male is not castrated I would not suggest allowing them to live together, you wont have any genetic history so you could well be breeding from chins that may be carrying genetic defects / malloclussion . To be honest I am surprised at a rescue centre that allows unneutered animals to live together

This is what we did. They have been next to each other for months and slowly introduced.

Great stuff

Personally I would not suggest a jenny rat cage for chins as they need untreated pine shelves not plastic , which can be digested and cause a blockage honey

Have a look at this site Johns cages are superb John Hopewell (Marketing) Rotherham South Yorkshire, Chinchilla Cages - Degu Cage - Degus Exercise Wheels - Cages - Animal Cages - Rat Cage - Ezi-Filla - Ezi - Easy - Automatic Water Drinking Systems - Guinea Pig Runs - Rabbit Feed Hoppers - Birds -
