Re: chico castration????

Its unusual to get a chin that bites as you are describing .How long have you had your chin Castration does not calm a chin down like it does with a male dog

It is possible to introduce 2 males , however you would need to ensure that you have space for 2 cages side by side for as long as the introduction process may take

You would be welcome at ChinsRus - Chinchilla rescue and forum where we have lots of info on intros etc

Castration has no magical calming effects on rodents whatsoever. They will still behave like they are entire, they just won't be able to reproduce after about 6 weeks. Not all chinchillas WANT to be cuddled and sometimes we have to content oursleves with just watching them play, coming to us to grab a treat from us if we are lucky. Out of the 7 chins I own, only one will come and get onto your arm and actively seek out fuss and attention. 5 others will accept handling but do not want to be 'cuddled' for long and one absolutely detests handling though I can get him if I need to. He was very aggressive when I got him due to having been teased by someone but he accepts me being around now and will take treats from me.

Chinchillas are not often 'cuddly' and we as their owners have to respect them and allow them to be them. Why not have him castrated anywayand then after six weeks see about getting a female to introduce to him? There are chinchilla forums out there who will gladly guide you through the introduction process.

With my lad who was aggressive, I bought one of these FAKE HANDS and worked on him for a few minutes 2 - 3 times a day by touching him with the hand and then offering him a raisin or mini shredded wheat wedged in the fingers of the hand if he had not bitten it. It took a few weeks but I graduated onto using my real hand once he stopped biting the fake one. Note - hold the fake hand under your armpit first to get your scent onto it each time you use it.

If you do have to handle him, wrap a towel around one of your arms first then grasp him by the base of his tail, right next to his bum and place him on your arm. If he bites then he won't hurt you and you will have him securely.
