Re: Pregnant? Ill?

Is there any change in her teats at all. Could you not get her checked over by a vet they may be able to confirm for you .

Re: Pregnant? Ill?

Chins are pregnant for 111 days.
If she is well handled you will be able to hold her and feel if her belly feels hard,if so she probably is pregnant.Do not try this if she is not used to being handled though.
At the end of the pregnancy you may notice she spends more time on the floor or laying on her side and she may eat less food but that is not always so so not a sure way to tell.
The last couple of week of pregnancy you should be able to watch her while quiet and see movement.
Changes in colour of droppings is usually dietary.Have you fed her anything different?
Have you also got a spare cage to split the male if she gives birth to prevent breedback?

Did your friend put the two chinchillas together without your permission - if so I would expect her to pay any vets bills you may get if your female has complications

Not only will you a seperate cage to wean the babies into (2 cages if different sexes), but you will have the responsibility of finding the kits permanent homes......which may not be easy in the current economic climate.

Nuts and dried fruit are not the best diet for chinchillas (apart from an odd treat) so feed them sparingly, Your female should be on a good brand of pellets and good quality hay.

This is a good site for all things chinchilla
