Hi my little male chin had a castration today we got him from the vets about 6.45, we were told to keep him quiet and warm, he has hardly moved , a few stretches, he has had a long drink of water, nothing to eat, should i call the vet or is this normal,i don't know what time his op was, am just worried about him thanks julie

Id give your vet a ring. Do they specialise in exotics?

I dont know much about chins, but if their guts are similar to rabbits in the way that they eat constantly to keep them ticking over, then i would have thought it might be an idea to try a bit of syringe feeding.

I could be way off the ball though.

iT MAY BE ALSO DEPENTDANT TO HOW HE IS ON WHAT TIME HIS OP WAS IF IT WAS LATER HE MAY BE STILL SLEEPY. IM SURE HE WILL BE FINE. IF WORRIED ID RING THE VETS.

Chins can be very quiet after an operation which is normal.
Offer him some healthy treats like some oats or a shredded wheat to try and encorage him to eat but leave him quiet and keep him warm but not too hot and see how he is tomorrow.
Did your vet give him a painkilling injection do you know?
If you are at all concerned then contact your vet but it is good he has had a drink.
After an operation I offer all mine a mash of pellets which usually goes down very well.
Just add booiling water to his pellets and offer it still warm.They love it.

Hi thank you to all who replied re my chin fudge,he was put under twice as he had a lot of bleeding from the 1st op, so the vet opened him up a 2nd time and sorted him out. He was very poorly when we got him home we thought we would lose him in the night, we rung the vet who assured us it was because of the anesthetic( don't know if that's the right spelling). So we stayed up all night with him we took him back to the vet yesterday morning as we were still very worried he gave fudge some painkiller ,and fluids, he pretty much slept all afternoon, the he got up as if nothing had happened and began eating, drinking and looking for his toys and treats i am so happy he is going to be ok we take him back to the vet tomorrow to be checked over,he is in a cage next to his mate so he is happy THANK YOU once again for all the help and advice julie x

Did you have him done as he lives, or is going to live, with a female?

Hi Nonnie we bought fudge as a mate for our 1st chin and because we love them we were told the 1st chin was a male so after the introductions etc we put them together they have been together since we got fudge 6 months ago we got up Sunday to find out one of the boys had given birth to 2 kits, one sadly was already dead so you can image our shock/ delight so we decided to have fudge castrated,as i could not bear to part with any kit's,so we would loads of the delightful little chin's if we were to leave him not castrated my daughter seems to think the kit is a boy but i don't know if you can tell this early on ?.The vet said to keep fudge and coco in different cages for 6 weeks, we want them to live together hence the op. julie

So nice to see owners doing the right thing, and putting their animals needs first.
