I'm extremely worried about my chin, he has had what I thought was eye infections for a while, but he doesn't seem bothered about it, and now he has started to get a wet chin/chest area. I am extremely worried that he has tooth problems which get me upset. I absolutely love my chinchilla but I can't take him to the vet as there are no vets near and my chinchilla gets stressed with being transported. I really need help with my amazing boy. Please could you help! do you know anyways I could help him from home? He also seems to have lost his appetite a bit. I really need HELP and fast, He is my world and I dont want to loose him.!

Re: Urgent Help!
It sounds like teeth problems.I have recently lost one of my old chinchillas with these symptoms, they go downhill rapidly so get him to the vet straight away before it is too late

Re: Urgent Help!
Sounds like he has dental problems, he needs an X ray asap to find out what problems he is having . Chins mask pain and his mouth is going to be very painful which will eb why he is not eating. Please phone round and find a vet sooner rather than later . To leave him suffering is cruel

My local vet has done everything for my chinchillas from caesarians to castrations and I am happy with the service received. It appears from your original post his problems have been going on for a while. He needs to go to a vet urgently - look up your local one in Yellow Pages or here Find a vets near you. Re: Urgent Help!
Not all teeth problems are a death sentence. It could be something simple like a spur that needs burring.
Try not to panic but do not let your vet palm you off just by looking in his mouth as he will need xrays to check the roots. Good luck and let us know what happens. |

Re: Urgent Help!
OH, I couldn't take Toby to the vet yet, so me and my mum went shopping for lots of chew toys for him, then I came back and I cleaned his cage and he have one of those chin-chiller things that chinchilla's sit on to keep them cool. And thjat was p;ut underneath his water bottle and it had a wet patch under the bottle and I thought that be the reasons for Toby having a wet chin and chest. And he's being eating exactly the same as before. He's always had eye problems so, I dont actually think there is anything wrong with him. If the wetness under his chin hasn't gone by the end of today then I'll take him to the vet.
But none of you guys understand, Its hardly possible to take Toby to the vet. For a start he is absolute rubbish for handling. And How do I get him there. I dont have a pet cariier and hes no good at travelling. But thanks for the help though. He's never been good at being handled because when I got him when he was 2 (he's now 4) I got him from someone who was moving abroad so they had to get rid of him. Well his previous owner got him from a pet shop that never handled him, and his previous owners weren't very nice to him they only grabbed himm when thay wanted to hold him, and this made him very scared of humans and has a fear of being held. Anyway I had to start from the beginning with him, which was a hard option because he wasn't a baby, and he's no where near finished training, If you have any tips helping handling then that would be very helpful for me. |
