Re: feeding

Chins should not be given fresh fruit or veg as this can cause bloat which can be fatal in chins

Re: feeding

I have always given treats 2-3 times a week to my chinchillas with no side effects - sometimes they get a piece of apple or a grape, other times a raisin or dried cranberry.

The trick is not to overdo the number of treats, and do not give them if the animal has soft droppings or is unwell.

Re: feeding

I agree with kirksandall.
You can feed fruit and veg but in moderation.
Really as the odd treat every now and then.
Too much will give them diarreah so introduce slowly

Re: feeding

I wouldn't recommend giving fruit or veg to a chinnie. They have delicate digestive systems. The occasional raisin is fine though. My chin loves apple bark, but you have to be careful - you have to know for certain that the tree has not been treated with ANY chemicals as this can be deadly for chinchillas.

Re: feeding

I am totally confused as to why you would want to give cucumber which has no nutritional value what so ever

I stand by my stance that veg is not something their digestive system is geared towards, they need a diet that is high in fibre
