Looking to adopt 2 Chins

I joined the forum with the intent of looking into rabbits for the family. Since then, we have discovered that the man of the house will not cope with his animal hair allergy.

So maybe the next step is to look for a pair of 'Chins' as their fur is meant to be better for allergy sufferers so it seems like a perfect idea.

What is the best age to take them on from? I plan to either buy from a breeder or adopt from an animal shelter.
What size cage is best?
If anyone has any useful information or tips I would be very greatful. I want to be prepared for a new addition to the family and for them to be as happy as can be

I understand my son will not get the contact with the 'Chins' as he would have done with a rabbit, but I am hoping he will still learn to love and care for them as much.

Thankyou

Re: Looking to adopt 2 Chins

the fur is better for allergy sufferers, but they NEED regular dust baths, which arent good for people who suffer from allergies
i would suggest buying some chinchilla dust and throwing it around near him first to see if it sets his allergies off in all honesty

He is 100% not allergic to dust, as he works in it all day long. also my house currently looks like a building site....

Re: Looking to adopt 2 Chins

that means nothing im afraid, my dads an engernier, always working around plaster dust and brick dust and the likes, has no effect on him.
however he is very alergic to chinchilla dust/sand

Re: Looking to adopt 2 Chins

why not visit a rescue centre local to you get your man to hold them etc and see how he is over the next few days. If you explain this to the centre over the phone before visiting they really wont mind.
TKK and Charlie13 like this.
