introducing Chins
I have 2 female chins, one I have had since she was 12 weeks old and was in a cage with mum dad and brother, Ive now had her about 3 months. The other I picked up yesterday she is 8 years old and was from a friend who had her from a baby and was, until about2-3 months ago caged with a mate who suddenly died. Her owner felt she was lonely and asked if I would take her on. We picked her up yesterday and now have to two cages next to each other (with a gap) so they can become used to each other. My youngest one will take food off me walk on to my hand, and climb on me,but when I try to stroke her, just with my finger she jumps and runs off,I have held her a few times but she hates it, so Ive stopped dong this coz she just goes mad wriggling about. The new (older one) is quite happy for me to take her out and hold and stroke her, even after just the one day of being here. I felt that to have this one(older one) would help to build the confidence of the other, and equally provide the company the older one lost.
So Im leaving the cages next to each other for a bit (though they dont seem to be that interested in each other yet-I appreciate its early days) and my aim is to eventually have them in together. I know what Im doing and how Im going to do it so Im just after some guidance and input or for any of those that have done this, any pointers that you found helped the process or made it easier, Im in no rush to put them in together. Im my mind ive though a week together next to each other then a supervised play in the hall way for a short period of time, building to putting them in each others cages for short periods etc etc,but also aware that if things seem ok sooner than a week, or even if I feel they need longer than a week before free runs together then I'll being going at their pace, I hope that makes sense. Either way any further pointers would be FAB ![]() |

Re: introducing Chins
the best way iv found to bond chins, is in a carrier.
you also need to make sure their personalities are compatable first, if they are both dominant, the chances of it working are much slimmer you want a clean neutral carrier, you want to put the least dominant chin in first, followed by the most dominant chin. and then sit and watch. sometimes they will bond within a few hours, sometimes it will take a couple of days, if you cant keep an eye on them at night, pop them back into their seperate cages where they can still see each other, and put them back in the carrier in the morning. when you put them in a cage together, it wants to be clean and neutral Mooshu & Mulan in bonding ![]() ![]()
