Chilla-newbie cage advice

Hi all,

I've been considering getting a chinchilla for awhile now and have seen a 6 month old male for a home - but no cage with!

My mum has had lots of chillas before and we are confident on how to look after him but the problem is she had a homemade cage before which we no longer have.

I've been looking at cages today online and they baffle me. I see one that looks great and reviews say it's but then reviews elsewhere say it's awful. Could anyone recommend me some good cages? Or have had experience with any of the cages bellow?

Lazy Bones LB-SA12 3 Tier Ferret Rat Chinchilla Cage

Indoor Pets: NEW RAT CHINCHILLA FERRET LARGE MAMMAL CAGE F12 (F12)

Indoor Pets: LIBERTA HAVEN RAT CHINCHILLA DEGU LARGE PET CAGE 1121 (Haven 1121)

Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Chilla-newbie cage advice

none of those cages are suitable

1st one is a nasty nasty cage, the doors open inwards, hardly any toy space, wire floor can cause bumble foot and other foot problems

the other 2 contain plastic, you can not have any plastic in a chinchilla cage, if they chew it, it can kill them, the 3rd is also too small, the 2nd id too high and too narrow, chinchillas are rock hoppers not climbers

chinchillas are also highly social animals, and should be kept in pairs or more, they crave company from their own kind, and a lone chin is never a truly happy chin
