tias runny eye

hi i have a chinnie with a runny eye. have not changed food or substrait. but when i recieved her (only a few days ago) she was matted, not very fat and poorly cared for. she has now had a good grooming and sevral sand baths as well as a constant full bowl of food with the odd treat..

(she didnt know what the sand bath was for to start of with)

Could this be a big problem i have coming... she is booked in with the vets on weds for a check over... is there anything i can do to keep it from getting worse....

Is warm salt water a good thing to wash it with or should i keep water away from her eyes

It dosent look painful, swollen or irritating. It just has a milky watery discharge that dosent dry up..

or could it be something in her eye...

please guys im confused with this one..

Re: tias runny eye

i dont know much about chinchillas but are her teeth ok? only malloclusion can cause runny eyes in rabbits and i presume its the same for chins, or maybe shes got conjunctivitis, whatever is causing it im sure the vet will sort her out

aww poor little thing

tbh if its the back teeth you might not be able to tell, but im sure the vet will get to the bottom of it, and hopefully you'll get some sound advice from the very knowledgable rodent folk too

good luck with her, i love chinchillas

Re: tias runny eye

one of my chinchillas is alergic to sand, she gets a runny gunky eye from it

as has already been said though, it would be well worth getting her teeth checked out, teeth and eye problems are so closely related its better safe then sorry
