Can i keep 1 male and 1 female litter mates together?
Exactly what it says on the tin, lol. Can I keep them together safely? Would one or both require neutering to prevent breeding......and any further advice welcome. I owner a chin a while ago, but had only the one then.
Many Thanks |

the male will need neutering first, and allowing 6 weeks to recover before introducing them

Re: Can i keep 1 male and 1 female litter mates together?
they need separating now!! she could easily fall pregnant at that age which could prove fatal to her, one of our chinchillas came to use too young to be bred, pregnant, she cost over £5000 in vet bills in her short 4 year life, and lost her battle a couple of months ago.
the drain on their bodies from having a baby so young is imense!! the pregnancy drained all the calcium molly needed to grow herself, for the baby, her teeth turned to mush, she couldnt eat, she could raise the baby, i had to hand raise fidget, feeding round the clock every 2 hours. molly needed dentals every 2 weeks, and calcium supliment, she eventually got up to every 12 weeks, after about a year, and she was happy, then we found she also had root elongation, she went back down to 3 weekly dentals, and had no quality of life, we had to let her go. so please, seperate them NOW for her sake, chinchillas are pregnant for 111 days, they should not be bred before 9 months at the very earliest. they can be neutered around 5 - 6 months, as long as their bits have dropped.
