Re: Chinchilla !!!!

good cages are either p@h thicket cages or john hopewells cages.

the website is John Hopewell (Marketing) Rotherham South Yorkshire, Chinchilla Cages - Degu Cage - Degus Exercise Wheels - Cages - Animal Cages - Rat Cage - Ezi-Filla - Ezi - Easy - Automatic Water Drinking Systems - Guinea Pig Runs - Rabbit Feed Hoppers - Birds -

any age for a chin is great. you should try rescuing a chin as there's currently too many in rescues at the moment.

You also need a good quality pellet and lots of hay

Re: Chinchilla !!!!

i've been there but be careful. They demand a huge cage and are very picky about potential owners. we tried adopting from them and our cage wasn't half as big as they wanted it to be.

Re: Chinchilla !!!!

I think all RSPCA rehoming places are "picky" when rehoming any type of animal. Afterall, the animals aren't in there for good reasons most of the time, so they are only looking out for the animals. It's good that they make sure they are going to perfect homes, and aren't going to end up in the same kind of situation that got them in the rehoming centre in the first place.

I can't really suggest anywhere to get a good cage from, sorry!

But, I would suggest getting a cage with the wire bottom with the tray underneath, that way it's easier to clean. Chinchillas like to hop/jump around so try and get a cage with some different levels/shelves in.

I wouldn't go for one that's extremely tall either, incase they fall and hurt themselves.... I would probably go for a wider than taller cage.

Oh and don't forget a dusbath!!

You could try Suki's Chinchilla Rescue in Edlington near Doncaster, or Artis Pet Sanctuary in Doncaster - they are usually full of chinchillas. I have a couple of male chinchillas who I took in recently looking for good homes - I am in Doncaster if you are interested.
