I believe salt water is used to get rid of infection (or at least bring it out). I used it on my rabbit's sore hocks when she had infection in her feet, and it brought the pus out of her feet. I would use salt water on her eye, it won't hurt and it should help.

Re: suggestions please!

Tears are basically saline anyway. As long as you dont make it really strong then it should be fine.

Re: suggestions please!

I was always told to use cold (black) tea to bathe eyes - there's something in tea that can soothe the eye and I used it with good success in emergencies in my dogs - without complaint from them. Perhaps have this in reserve if the salt water is sore!

yea i heard that too, its just that chins cant get water on their fur as it damages it. i know it already is a tiny bit from the discharge but i dont want to damage it anymore.

Re: suggestions please!

i have used optrex on my animals eyes but im not sure about chinchillas.
i think anything we can use on our eyes wont burn a animals eyes out
but if unsure stick to weak saline solution.
