Question please help

Hi i was wondering if you anyone could help me.
i got my chin from a rescue centre. i have a few things i would like you to answer if you possibly could.
1. i understand that chins are nocturnal& their teeth are always growing but why does my chin seem to chew the wood in his cage at night time constantly? (he has alot of toys, wooden toys, chew blocks, mineral blocks etc, but he seems to always bite the wood) i eventually went to sleep at half seven this morning when he decided to stop ha ha.
2. on one level of his cage where i only place a small amount of sawdust, i noticed he was licking something off the floor area, when i looked closer it was his wee. i was wondering is this normal?
3. this is just a general question& i think i know the answer. my chin was very shy when i first got him a would never come to me, but i spend time with him daily letting him come to me etc, when i place my hands together in his cage, he will put his front paws on my hand and stamp them like asif he's getting comfy. does this mean hes starting to trust me more& knows that hes safe with me?
any help i would much appreciate. thanks

Re: please help

I had two chins from rescue and one sadly died today following an accident last night when he got trapped and damaged his spine.. PLse keep an eye on your chin at all times when he is having excercise. Id had him 4 yrs or so and he was 10. Other one now very sad. Chins are very active at night and it would be best if he wasnt in same room you sleep in. He will chew any wood. I get mine plenty of willow sticks from pets at home.Ensure any wood in cage is safe for chins. PLse go on google and find out as much info as u can about chins if u never had one before. They are adorable and rarely get ill if u care for them correctly.

Re: please help

also re sawdust- plse make sure they are chinny safe woodshavings. They will wee and forage a little amongst saw dust if you mix in safe foragy type mixes you can buy from pets at home such as the bark bits, a few rose hips, the leaves and twigs u can buy- it all makes life more interesting for him. Have you got a chinny sand bath? They bathe in sand. Ensure special chinny bathing dust u get fro Pat home.Dont let any water nera fur- drinking bottles only- no bowls. He will get to trust u more but they dont all like being cuddled. I just sit quietly and let mine climb on me.hope this helps

Re: please help

finally- take care with treats. Very few. Only 1 small raisin a day. They adore them, but VERY fattening and too many treats can kill them. I feed mine on pets at home pellets- have all the goodness in they need. just a handful a day with sometimes pets at home chinni sald treat mixed in.better than the other muesli type stuff. also ensure he doent get too hot- can overheat easily and you must take care with this.Plse go on chinny sites on intranet .The more you learn about em the better. best wishes Sue

im very sorry to hear about your chin. yes i know quite a bit about chins as ive been studying animal care at college, but just havent came across the weeing situation before lol. yes i have made sure everythin is safe for my chin as wouldnt want to harm him. yes he has a sand bath, he loves it! and as for the water bottle. when we got him from the rescue centre he had a water bowl, so we got a bottle and tried to introduce it to him, but he wouldnt drink. so we left both the bottle and bowl and still he never drank out of it. so we decided to stick with the bowl. we brought him one that screws onto his cage and we havent had any problems since.
