Can Chinchillas catch Myxo?

It looks like one of our rabbits Laurel has got Myxo, he is actually my brothers but his partner is 40weeks + 3days pregnant so he wont touch him incase anything gets passed to her.
I spent over an hour out in the garden with him, I started to wash his eyes gently with warm water on cotton wool but it didnt make any difference, he got comfy with his head on my shoulder so I just sat there and stroked him, his breathing sounded a bit obvious to begin with but seemed to settle after a while.
Hes going to the vets in the morning.
Ive offered to look after him over night in the warmth of my bedroom but Ive got Chinchillas and I dont want to risk them catching anything.
It doesnt seem to say anything online can anyone help?

Re: Can Chinchillas catch Myxo?

As far as I know, only rabbits can catch it. It's a sort of blood disease only caught in bunnies

Wishing your bunny well xx

Myxi can't be passed to anything but rabbits, you can even eat them safely

Shazza & Hawksport thanks for that, I was almost sure that was the case but not 100%, I dont think I could ever eat rabbit and to think of eating a poorley one is just a bit yuck to me.
My Chinchillas are 11 years old and I just didnt want to risk them.
