Chinchilla - New Member.

Hi all, my name is Scott, I have a Chinchilla, had him for about 10 months, i have found out today that he cant open his left eye, I have tried bathing it but nothing and he still cant open it.

I have recently about 3 weeks ago tried woods shavings from pets at home for his bedding/litter underneath the cage.

I can get intouch with the vets till monday morning, is there anything else I can do?
Also what do people use for the litter?

Many Thanks.

Scott

Re: Chinchilla - New Member.

Hi there, Chinchilla keepers and breeders normally use sheets of newspaper. We change it at least twice a week. He possibly has a piece of shaving in his eye so I hope he can be sorted out. Please do not use shavings and stick to newspaper in future. Chinchillas do not need bedding as they get too warm. Pine shelving to sit on is ideal and possibly a hammock.

Re: Chinchilla - New Member.

Newspaper is what most chinchilla keepers use yes. Does them no harm, is cheap and easy to use and quick to change.
