Question Just wondering???

Heyyy I was just wondering a few things about my chinchilla... Has my chinchilla got something wrong... He sleeps on his side and Im getting a little worried..... Should I change my chinchillas diet? He is currently on Charlie chinchilla and I've heard that it isnt good... also I've noticed that my chinchilla is very picky and doesn't eat his Pellets... What should I do?
What are quite healthy treats for chinchillas?
Please Help me...

Re: Just wondering???

Please don't worry as for chinchillas sleeping on their sides are perfectly normal mine do it all the time!

I have five chinchillas and i feed them all on charlie chinchilla as this seems to do them well as they are all healthy and have very soft coats. Mine are also very picky and don't eat that dark green pelets this is normal as these are the best bits and theyare very healthy for the chinchillas and of cause because of this they doin't like them.

Always make sure that they have plenty of hay to eat (Timothy hay is best), and fresh fruit and vegetables, mine like carrt and apple best. Be sure if you are going to make a drimatic change in their diet make sure you do it slowly!

For treats i give mine peanuts, but these should be limited to a few a week as they contain a lot of fat and ar not good for chinchillas if given in great amounts. Dried fruit is also good, but dont over feed with these as they can be very acidic and can make them ill.

Hope this help and feel free to contact me if you need any more information!

Re: Just wondering???

Glad to hear that toby is feeling better, have you thought about getting a marble slab to put in his cage when the weather turns hot?

They are avalible from most pet stores and are really easy to use, just pop them in the fridge for a couple of hours and then place inside his cage for him to lie on and cool himself down.

Re: Just wondering???

charlie chinchilla is very bad for chinchillas unless they eat all of it. chins tend to pic out the raisens and fruit and leave the nutitional bits. we feed ours on pellets called charnwoods, very highly recommended.

Also, peanuts and dried fruit should be limited to one a week, they are high in fat and sugar.

Healthy treats are - mini shredded wheat and the naturals range from pets at home
