Need help with cat bhaviour

Hi guys long time no speak.

Well Tink is now being shown as an adlt and I have a problem.

One of the last shows she did the steward bangded her back on the pen as she got her out. Tink now hisses and grumbles and strggles when the stewards get her out. This has got to the point where her first PC was withheld yesterday!!

Anyone no of any calming products I can use fr her? She is fine in the pen sleeps purss rolls about to be fussed.

YOu get her out and she hisses at the other cats!

Re: Need help with cat bhaviour

I'm pretty sure you could face disqualification if you use something to "calm her down".

From a recent schedule:
Quote:
You are advised against purchasing any shampoo’s that change a cat's coat colour or the use of Stress Remedies including Scullcap or Valerian which change a cat’s normal appearance or physical reaction as this will lead to disqualification under Section 4 Rule 14.
Does she hiss at you when you take her home? It might be worth trying something like entering her as an exhibit & getting her used to fuss with her being lifted in & out of the pen by you or someone experienced to gain her confidence. Otherwise it may just be not the scene for Tinks.

Yes, it's not permitted to use "calming" remedies. I'm afraid that if your cat is unhappy when being shown, you really can't do much other than stop showing her. It would not be good for her to bite someone - 2 biting certificates mean permanent disqualification. Some cats just do not like shows and once they've decided they don't like it, their attitude is unlikely to change. I know it's disappointing but you do need to consider the cat's feelings.

If you're absolutely sure it's just being taken out by stewards that she objects to, rather than the whole showing experience, you could try showing her with FiFe, you handle your own cat for their shows.

I am considering my cats feeling hence why I am asking if their is anything I can do to help her!

I am going to tru her with FIFE as sjed doesnt hiss at me.

I also think a lot of it is her hissing at other cats and not the people in general.

She is find at the show and is really relaxes in the pen I would not do anything to stress her out! People must really not read original posts!!!!!

She has been showed once a month since a kitten so 8 shows or so in this time. and she has onlt done this this show after the incident with the steward.

It really upsets me that people think I am cruel to tink. People really do jump the gun. I was thinking rescue remdy or something of the sort or feliway and not drugging her!!!!!!

Lots of people use rescue remedy, and feliway spray to help reduce the stress of traveling. I don't think either of those are against the rules You can put rescue remedy on the skin by her ears and it is supposed to have the same affect, so nothing would be given orally. Its not the same as dosing the cat with valerium and skullcap or something stronger as plenty have done in the past.

Re: Need help with cat bhaviour

You might like to try Zylkene on her food- it's a natural supplement made from milk.
It is not a drug and they suggest that you use it for about a month. It seems to act to reduce anxiety.
Might be worth a try if you want to continue with her show career.

Re: Need help with cat bhaviour

Hiya,

I use Rescue remedy for the few days leading upto the show.It helps with the journey to the show.I also use feliway in the carrier.

I don't feel anyone was suggesting you were being cruel to Tink. I do hope that you manage to settle her down so she can continue to enjoy the shows.

Izzie

Re: Need help with cat bhaviour

You could try giving her a break for a while, time is a great healer or so they say.

Iam in the same dilema with Tricky, he started to get a little grumpy at his last few shows and got a CNH in one of his side classes. He has had a year off so Iam hoping whatever spooked him in the first place will now be forgotton. Iam taking him to the supreme so we will see?

Iam not sure if this is allowed but they sometimes sell Valerian toys at the shows, they smell awfull but the cats seem to love them. Ive thrown one in during the afternoon of a show quite a few times and no-one has ever said its wrong to do so, might help?

Best of luck Jen x
