Re: Neuturing and Showing

LOL that really made me laugh!!!!

They said that they wuldn't even shave the leg so that's good news.

Ouch the process sounds horrible!!

Have to do it though and they will be done together so at least will feel poorly together, better than one of them jumping on the other etc.

Not really, even if they shave the leg he won't be penalised for it, its just better if they don't do it. Slightly baldy shriveled bits won't affect him either.

The main thing I would consider is that even though its a routine op, it is still an anaesthetic, so does he have enough time to recover both physically and condition wise. That would depend on the individual cat and the breed.

Re: Neuturing and Showing

That is true. I wanted him done asap but the vets won't do him before he is 6 months (he is 6 months on the 21st). Hopefully he will be fine & if he isn't then he simply won't go.

Re: Neuturing and Showing

Our vets are brilliant, they never shave if we ask them not to and one of them can even take bloods for general profiles etc (which we do annually once they are 10 just to keep an eye) without shaving, invaluable when Raffles has to have one! They are also good at midline spays for female show cats.

I have to admit mine are pretty good like that too, when I took lulu for a snap test they didnt shave her .
I took tricky to my previous vets a few years ago for a blood test and they shaved half his neck I think he was a bit of an awkward customer though

Ive not had a midline spey yet, my vet does both but Ive always opted for the regular flank spey as they said the recovery time is quicker? When I have Lulu done though I think I will go for the midline , Iam planning to show her as a neuter
