FB Show Question

Hi,

Can someone on here tell me at an FB show when they call your cat up for Judging do you have to hold your cat until it's ready to be judged, or is there pens to put your Cat in like at TICA shows to wait to be judged?

Also, do the cats have to wear Tallies?

Thank You

Re: FB Show Question

I didn't see tallies being worn, and yes you do hold your cat on your knee waiting for judging, although there are holding pens behind the judge, but very few people use them. I believe the general opinion is that if you have to use those, your cat isn't really a suitable show temperament. The judge has them out for quite a long time too, as they look at them and then do the write up there and then with the cat in front of them. They then have to wait again for the judge to pick their nomination if they have more than one cat/kitten in a group ie kittens 6-10 mths.

Thats my experience from 1 show, so its probably a load of twaddle

Re: FB Show Question

There are pens but most people seem to keep cats on their laps. Tallies are theoretically required but in practice apparently no-one actually uses them.

Re: FB Show Question

Thanks guys. No I don't have a cat who would be suited to that sort of set up I was just reading the FB website earlier and it says you take your cat up etc etc... and I was just wondering if there were pens incase you had to wait a long time, though I guess they wouldn't call you until they were ready for you.

I am thinking of going to visit one in December as it's local.

Re: FB Show Question

You do still have to wait a reasonable time from when they call you to when the judge sees you. There were 2 kittens before the one I was with and the judge took a fair time with each. One of them arguing with the owner about the cat being too fat - which I have to agree with her he was, he looked pregnant, fab type though. The judges took a good time looking at the cat and discussed everything with the owner which was very nice.

All the cats seemed very relaxed sat on their owners knees in close proximity to other cats they'd never seen before. A few seemed over awed by the whole thing, especially during the BIS judging, but then its really up to the owner to recognise that that sort of set up didn't suit their cat and not to put them through it rather than a problem with the way the show was operated.

It is quite a slow day all in all. It did drag quite a bit. Nice and relaxing for the cats though.

Re: FB Show Question

Thanks for telling me about it. I'm looking forward to going and having a look. As I say I know mine would not enjoy that set up and wouldn't be relaxed... My Apricot boy was OK at TICA but as the day drew on he got more and more irritable and I couldn't blame him being put in and out of different pens all day. He didn't mind the people but hissed the scratch posts and the pens he was put in.

I've watched him being judged at the GCCF and he is nice and relaxed and happy to be handled so I'll be sticking to the GCCF with him.

Re: FB Show Question

Different registries definitely look for different things in siamese and orientals. I think all mine are GCCF "type" cats, athough the one I did show at TICA probably enjoyed the format better than a GCCF show. He just goes to sleep and refuses to wake up at a GCCF show but really enjoyed seeing other cats at TICA, you could see it on his face.

I haven't entered any of mine at FB, might one day though. They seem to like a more european type very long and skinny. I do have one that may fit the bill, her choc colour is definitely too dark for GCCF, but she may get away with that under another registry thats not so picky about hue - possibly Worth a try anyway.

Its definitely worth a visit, its interesting seeing different format shows and different cats. You tend to see the same ones over and over again in the same registry.
