Is she good enough to show?

I have a lovely brown spotted bengal girl and would really like to try showing her. How can i find out if she is up to showing standard? Or do i just need to try it and see what happens. I know it can be quite expensive to enter the shows and that bengals will no doubt have a lot of competition so i'd rather get an indication if she would have a chance before taking the plunge. :0)
Thanks
Nicola

Re: Is she good enough to show?

As long as she meets the breed standard and doesn't have too many faults, then she stands a good a chance as any, you need to try her and see.
Judging is in the eye of the judge on the day so it is very difficult to say if she will or will not do well, all things being equal. Even if she comes back with nothing, as long as there is not a good reason for this (serious fault or temperament (some cats hate showing)) then next time out she could do exceptionally well, so it is worth trying again. Some very titled cats have had terrible days too in their showing career.
Large donut/pawprint rosetted cats though do seem to do slightly better so if she is not rosetted then she will need to have fabulous, exceptional type in order to beat them.

Check for lockets and tail faults, as if she has either of these she will not do well.

Re: Is she good enough to show?

The lady i bought her from doesn't show and was selling her cats due to being diagnosed with cancer, so i don't feel like i can ask her. She is from some good lines (as far as i know) - sarez, goldstar and indykatz.
I am a total beginner at showing cats.
I've attempted to attach a pic.
Thanks

Re: Is she good enough to show?

why not take her to a local show so you don't use lots of petrol. it's not that much to enter once just to see. about £29 - £32 plus a catalog for around £4.50. worth a shot? ps. i know nothing about bengals. lol

Re: Is she good enough to show?

it may be of some help if you find the site for Bengals and look up the S.O.P. ( standard of points ) on this breed , it will give you a basic idea of what to look for, but hey, you have nothing to loose, enter into a show near you and see how well she does, who knows you may be totally surprised, good luck..............Chris.

Re: Is she good enough to show?

I think the only way you will know for sure is to have a go and see .

I dont breed bengals but, I started out in the cat world showing my neuters, my brown marble has done very well but his brother ( brn spotted) hasnt done too well, his best placing was a 2nd

By looking at her picture I would say she is not good enough, this breed is still developing at a very fast pace and competition is extremely tough especially in the spotteds. Her ground colour looks abit dull to me (could just be the photo) a, she has a few linked spots and no rosseting that I can see (not essential but desirable).

Please take this with a pinch of salt, as Iam no expert and she could be of excellent type which you cant really tell from a photo.
Theres a few bengal breeders on here, who hopefully can give you a better opinion

Re: Is she good enough to show?

Perhaps go to a TICA show without her and see the Bengals there who do well, as there will be a lot of Bengals to see there, TICA is definitely where to go.
This is the show diary:-
Show Diary for TICA cat shows in the UK

From there you can judge whether your girl is good enough.

Re: Is she good enough to show?

Hi

I do agree with Jen in regards to showing however pictures can show cats contrast and spots in a negative way so maybe like Lauren100 said go to a show have a look at the bengals there and see how your cat compares or just book her into a show and take a risk you never know she might do really well !
at shows you will find different judges prefer different things so what one breeder thinks is show quality may not be to the judges preference on that show day it just depends really , as long as your girl meets the standard of points then its always worth a try at a show.

Good luck and let us know how you get on !!
