Question What are the "Open" and "Side Classes"??

Is the open the best of breed, and the side classes something else?? Anytime I read people's show results they might write something like, ...he won best of breed and came third best in show, or ...he won the open class and three side classes. Is that all talking about the same thing?...I'm totally lost.

Re: What are the "Open" and "Side Classes"??

The open class is where your cat is up against the same breed, sex and in some instances colour and pattern. Say oriental black male, his open would be all oriental black males. There is an equivalent open class for oriental black females. The winner of each of those classes competes for Best of breed. If an adult or neuter wins the open, but has their certificate withheld then they do not go forward for BOB.

Side classes are miscellaneous classes per breed and section (adult kitten and neuter) and are things like cats bred by exhibitor, novice - ie not entered a show before, visitor - ie living. They are a good way of finding out what different judges think of your cat.

Oh, thanks, Saikou! I understand that much better now.
