Unhappy Indoor Cat Trouble

I have two burmese cats, Alfie (5) who I have had since a kitten and Wolfie (3) who we adpoted from my brother-in-law about 2 years ago.

Alfie has never been out and is happy and content.

But Wolfie used to go out when he lived at my brother-in-laws but on one of his many travels was posioned and then very ill for a long time leaving him with very poor eyesight - he does not like bright light at all! When we adopted him the vet told me he was not to go out due to his eyesight and as I already had a house cat was quite content to let him join my family.

But recently he does nothing but meow all the time to go out, this started when by accident when he got out through a window and now he wants to go out all the time but because of his eyesight he can not.

Any ideas of how to stop the meowing which goes on through the day at various times driving us all mad - will a loud noise everytime he meows put him off?

Can anyone help?

Re: Indoor Cat Trouble

My cat Luna also always wants to get out but she is un-desexed at the moment and there are many stray toms hanging about so she will need to wait till she is neutered. Until then I try to bring the outside in. I gather grass and put it in a glass with water so she can eat it at her leisure, I also play with her when she is whining to get her mind off it. Maybe you could get a little cat harness to just sit with her outside sometimes? I'm sorry i'm not much help but I hope the problem is solved soon

xxx Joey

Re: Indoor Cat Trouble

You can get feliway (check spelling) plug-ins that may help to calm you cat.

Re: Indoor Cat Trouble

I can't offer any advice unfortunately but I am getting an outside cat enclosure for my kittens, it will be similar to Kay's unfortunately I can't add the thread to this post.

May be a moderator will link it for you to take a look at.

Re: Indoor Cat Trouble

It is sad when you have a cat that just wants to be outside
I think the best thing to do is build a cat enclosure so you can let him out and know he is safe

Re: Indoor Cat Trouble

Hello..
I think once he has been out and had a taste of freedom again.. he will do anything to get out..
probably your best bet is to keep him in full stop.. It will take about a month or so for him to get used to it..
other than that, I have a cat enclosure they can go into when the weather is nice.. they wait by the door when its a nice day.. or you could have a harness ....
I have tried feliway with mine and seems to have made no difference at all...
