Oh, god i'm sorry. FIP is awful and unfortunately there's nothing that can be done. They should'nt get another cat for a while anyway, because really if FIP was confirmed then everything should be cleaned down with a cat safe antibacterial cleaner. I could'nt say how long it will take for his brother to get over it, bless him. Lots of love & attention for him is all I could advise really.

Re: help 4 a friend plz

That is so sad how awful your friend must be so upset,
She should NOT get another cat for a period of time,
The virus may persist in the environment for several weeks, but is easily killed with common household disinfectants. However, consider that cats with clear symptoms of FIP infection are rarely shedding virus.
This is a very informative site regarding FIP.
Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)

It is such a shame when one cat dies and leaves the other alone
all they can do is give him plenty TLC and give him time to grieve
lets hope he settles down to being the only cat soon

Re: help 4 a friend plz

Aw that is so sad.

It takes time for animals to get over the loss of their companion. The question how long is difficult to say from weeks to months. Its a gradual healing process if thats a phrase I can use, and I have found the length of time differs for every animal.

Give him lots of TLC.

Sue
