You can't stop a cat being a cat unfortunately lol. Most cats I know do the same and are awake about that time. The only suggestion is have you are room to put them in for the night where they can have everything in they need.

I have no idea - most of this is just part and parcel of having cats - eventually we started sleeping through it and I think then they got bored and settled down. If we tried shutting our cats out they'd yell their heads off so I know that is rubbish advice.
Hope someone else can be more help!
