Playing in litter box?!?!

Hi all,

I'm posting again because i'm having all kinds of parenting problems and I need some advice. My partner and I became surrogate parents when the mother of our kittens died when they were 5 weeks old. We had to litter train them, and so far there have been very few accidents (most of which happened the the week following their mom's death). The problem I'm having is that my kittens (all 4) are playing in one of their litter boxes. It's always the same one and it is located in the same room as another one.

It seems to me as if they are trying to find something in the litter box and then they pounce on it. We clean their litter boxes twice a day, but it happens whether or not there is waste in the litter box or if its just been cleaned. I have to sweep the floor about 10 times a day because they make such a mess that litter ends up all over the dining room. It seems as though as soon as I sweep it up, 10 minutes go by and the floor is covered in litter again.

They started this about a month ago, and I tried moving the litter box to another room, which didn't deter them. They also seem to enjoy just laying in the litter box, and I often find them there and I remove them.

Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Erin

Re: Playing in litter box?!?!

Hi Erin, you're doing nothing wrong, you should'nt panic so much, lol They sound like perfectly normal babies to me, you're doing a fab job with them
It's normal for kittens to do that, my 6 do it all the time, they are 9 weeks old. It's just kitten play, they will find anything to jump in and out of to play hide & seek

Re: Playing in litter box?!?!

That is something kittens do lol it is normal
they will grow out of that quite soon, I give my kittens a cardboard box when they play in the litter traythis works a treat the prefer to play with the cardboard box I just cut a hole in the box so they can play hide and seek
