Baldy cat???!!??

My male cat has started acted very strangely! He is grooming excessively to the point where he is bald on his underside and on is legs. You can actually hear his chewing at himself! And he is frequently being sick fur balls!

His behaviour has changed quite a lot too. Hes become quite naughty, eating everything within sight, and trying to eat whatever we are eating. He managed to get his paws on a red pepper when my back was turned, and he ate THE WHOLE THING!!!

Nothing in our house has changed, we havent recentley moved or decorated. The only thing that has changed in his little life is that im not letting his out on a night time. He used to stay out all night, but after one two many trips to the vet after he came home war wounded we've started keeping him in on a night. But he is free to come and go all day, so he is still going out. One other thing is that our female cat, who we have had as long as my boy, was spayed recentley, and she has become a very affectionate cat. She is maybe getting more cuddles than she used to, because she likes them now. But he isnt been ignored!!!!

In between being a terror, he's still very affectionate and sits and has cuddles!!

Any suggestions????!!

Thanks, Amanda and a naughty gigs x

Re: Baldy cat???!!??

firstly take him for a check up at the vets and then try a couple of feliway plug ins - over grooming is often a sign of stress.

Re: Baldy cat???!!??

Usually its caused by stress, but cats can also suffer from OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). My cat Rigsy has OCD, she's been overgrooming herself for over 5 years now. The vet keeps telling me she'll just grow out of it. Doesn't seem to bother her at all.
