kleptomaniac kitty!
Just had a lodger move in with us and my 6 month old female kitten keeps removing things from her bedroom such as a make up brush, teddy bear, halloween cat ears (!) And now, a pen. Any idea why she's doing this? She only seems to be taking thinsgs from her room!!

Re: kleptomaniac kitty!
Thanks for the reply, the said room was one we never allowed the kittens into, mainly because it was full of clothes and boxes and I didn't want them rummaging! We rarely let them have the run of the house really, we usually keep all the bedroom doors closed unless we're up there too. She took something from the bathroom last night because someone left the door open. She's very naughty in general to be honest. Loves the sound of her own voice and rules the roost even though she was the runt lol. Her brother is lovely and very well trained though.

Re: kleptomaniac kitty!
Hi, sorry it's been so long. Right, if a kitten (or cat for that matter) is denied access to a room or cupboard that space becomes a bit more important. As you've already said she is a little bit naughty and wants to rule the house, so it is important to her that she can get everywhere
![]() Some cats aren't bothered and do their own thing, however your little kitty sounds very curious. You could try some of the repellent sprays that are on the market and spray the carpet outside the door, but in my experience they either don't work or you have to be doing it too often I'm afraid the best way is just to let her get on with it, don't make a fuss of what she's doing, but check to see where she goes afterwards and just put the stuff back. By not making a fuss she may grow out of it or become bored. If you do make a fuss she might think it's a game and do it all the time ![]() I know this isn't what you hoped for, but this way, I think, is your best shot. Good luck ![]()

Re: kleptomaniac kitty!
Lately we have been giving her extra attention-good attention istead of shouting at her, and the difference in her within just 1 day is amazing! She's back to being a cute and well behaved kitty!! We bought her her very own little kitten handbag and warned her brother away from it, she changed from there in!

That's good. Shouting at cats rarely works, so good for you at changing your strategy
Also, having a space for each cat to relax is great. My partner and I gave a radiator bed to my parents which Frodo (Ginger 1yr) uses, however they now have Billy (5mth Blk/White) who started getting in to the bed with Frodo already in there They now have two radiator beds, side by side with a cat in each ![]() I hope it all works out for you.
