Stop her weeing?!

I have a 18 month old cat Ruby. Never been any issues with her ever. About 4 months ago she got shot in the leg, had to get her leg amputated, she still has some bullet round the body but the vet said it would not bother her. She is a very active cat with 3 legs, she brought me a pheasent back the other day and dragged it through the catflap, so nothing wrong with catching things there. As I am a breeder I have alot of KC documents and she has started peeing in the documents and I can't stop her. I leave the livingroom door open all day so she has free run to come in and out the house as we have a catflap but she seems to just decide peeing on the papers is a better idea!

Any ideas on how to teach her not to do this!

Re: Stop her weeing?!

Firstly - shut the door or put your documents away where she can't get them when you aren not around - this sounds like it is developing into a habit and so you need to take away to source of the habit (the room and the papers)

secondly take her to the vets and check she doesn't have a UTI (this needs a urine analysis)

thirdly, plug in a feliway diffuser and that should help

fourthly make sure you have removed all traces of smell from the room and papers - you need to use a propriatory cleaner or bio washing powder (they can smell minute traces we can't that will tell her it's okay to use that spot)

Does she have a litter tray? - with the weather getting colder and only having 3 legs she may find balancing in the cold and wet outside a bit much - so if you can bear it - maybe provide a litter tray for her inside.

Thanks for the advice, I try and keep her out the room but the other cat opens the door for her, he climbs up the wall and pushes the catch down! No she doesn't have a tray, non of them do but I will put one in I think!!

Re: Stop her weeing?!

Spid's advice is sound especially providing her with a litter tray as she probably feels a bit more vulnerable going outside and balancing on three legs.

Could you put a catch on the door? Like a hook and eye type thing?

Re: Stop her weeing?!

When you get a litter tray set up use Cat Attract litter. It is a clumping litter but has a special smell and feel that really, really works making cats 'want' to use the litter tray.
