cat with dirty bum

Hiya

My 8 month old tabby has an embarassing problem... although I don't think he is aware.

When he uses his litter tray for a poo, sometimes his bum is dirty afterwards. Once was REALLY bad, like he hadn't finished before he walked away.

What do I do about it as it's not hygienic for him then to go sit somewhere.

thanks

Re: cat with dirty bum

what food are you feeding him?

- Wet, dry, mix of both.

- Is it kitten food?

- when was he last wormed?

- does he eat anything else other than his own food? ie treats when you have your lunch :-)

Re: cat with dirty bum

they are fed "wellbeloved" kitten biscuits and either whiskers or felix pouches. 2 pouches and half a daily allowance each on the bix. I have to confess Taf is probably eating more than his fair share of the bix as he loves them. We have had to really curb the amount of food we put down as we are worried he is getting overweight.

They do get the odd little treat, maybe a tiny bit of ambrosia custard. They only have cat milk (which they don't think much of) and that is rare coz they never drink it.

He hasn't been wormed for a while but he's only been going outside for about a fortnight so I wasn't worried as I don't see where he would be getting worms inside my house. Both him and his brother had a dose of milbemax at about 10 or 12 weeks as his brother had worms really badly when we got them. Since then there has been no sign of them.

When I clear out their litter tray they don't seem to have dodgy tummies.

In all other respects they both seem really healthy

Re: cat with dirty bum

It can only be the food. Try biscuit only for a day and see if it solves the problen that is if the kitten can chew up the biscuits dry. also give water only. You can then introduce a wet food for one meal only to try later. No custard and no milk.

Re: cat with dirty bum

Maybe try reworming him and his brother as worming only kills the formed worms not the eggs that will then hatch out at a later date and reinfect them again

Re: cat with dirty bum

One question, if it was his diet or worms wouldn't it happen all the time. it can be weeks between it happening.

Not saying it isn't, just trying to understand.
