Introducing 2 kittens

HI Guys,
Im new to this forum and also new to owning cats!
My story is here:
http://http://www.petforums.co.uk/ca...ml#post1045339

After some great advice I started contacting some rescues but it just so happened that at the vets with my sisters rat on Friday we saw an advert up for kittens needing homes.
We contacted the lady and she told us that she had inherited a cat with her farm and barn she had bought and she had kittens.
She went through all their personalities and after hearing what Tansy was like she said she had a few in mind.
We went to see them and they were a kept in a large stabe in a barn with all sorts of toys and platforms and she showed me the one she thought woud adapt wel to indoors as shes not overly advernturous and also one that may balance out Tansys madness!

We agreed and took her home, shes a lovely little kitten and very cautious compared to my boistrous and confident Tansy - Im sure thats why she survived out of her sibings.

The thing is ive never done cat intros before and not sure im doing it right - I thought theyd be playing together amost straight away but theyr not.

Tansy kept hissing at her - so I got them both playing with the same toy....they both seemed tired and Mitzi the new kitten got back in her carrier so I fed them both and put them to sleep for a few hours.
I then fed them again and started getting them to play again, Tansy desperatly wanted to play with her but didnt seem to know how and as she had hissed at Mitzi she was not going near Tansy.

They are interacting better but its slow.

Today Tasny wants to play now shes reaised Mitzi wont hurt her, but keeps going running up to her with her back arched and claws out and so Mitzi hisses at her..... Tansy then runs off.
This keeps happening..... they are both very interested in one another but have not quite payed together yet as it normally ends in a hiss from one or the other.

Is this normal or am I doign something wrong?
Any advice would be great?

Thanks

Re: Introducing 2 kittens

They are just getting used to each other. Tansy is seeing Mitzi as a bit of an intruder at the moment (doesn't like the thought of sharing you probably).

The blankets they are sleeping on over so that they can get used to each other's scents. Introduce them gradually (both of these bits of advice i have learned from the very knowledgable people on this forum).

Give it time, it won't happen in a few days, but i'm sure they will be friends soon.

Good luck - & where are the photos?

Re: Introducing 2 kittens

aaaawwww well done on getting another kitten

a couple of weeks ago i drove everyone mad on here with my impatience introducing 2 kittens

we'd had candy for 3 weeks when we got cookie for her as a friend, they are both the same age so thought they'd get on well. candy seemed to be scared of cookie and spent days growling and hissing just because she could smell her, cookie was and still is very shy and spent 2 days hiding. after a few days candy would be in the same room as cookie but spent the whole time growling and hissing, cookie would totally ignore her, then it seemed to be almost overnight that candy just accepted her and they started playing together, then the next day they started sleeping together then washing each other.
this all took about a week and they now go in the same room overnight and when we are out.

Re: Introducing 2 kittens

I think I kinda pushed it quite quickly as I didnt realise how to do it all...
but they are now both in the same room and have been since I got the new kitten.
Lastnight huge breakthrough - they started playing together!!!
They had been trying to play all day but it ended in hissing but lastnight they started playing and they loved it!
Batting each other around the scratch post, chasing one another

And then later I found them aslpee near each other so all is going great!
Thanks for your help and advice
