New cat - Hissy McGrumpypants

WE got our first cat, Mao just over a year ago, she was a feral kitten, about 3 months old at the time, but despite being very shy at first, she has turned into a beautiful little kitty.

Last Sunday we went to pick up a new cat - Frida Kahlo - who is approx 2 years old. Poor Frida hadn't been looked after very well by her previous owners, was quite thin, and had terrible skin due to an awful flea infestation.

On Tuesday I took Frida to the vet who treated her flea problem & gave her an injection to stop the itching - her skin is so much better already.

Now the problem is that Mao wants to play, but Frida emits this really loud grumble sometimes when Mao gets too close. She doesn't do it all the time, which is what puzzles me. Frida doesn't flatten her ears, or arch her back or anything, she just grumbles & sometimes hisses at poor Mao. Just now Mao just went up to Frida & got within centimeters of her nose without any noise at all. Is there anything I can do to make them settle more? I realise it will take time, I'm aware of that, but it's so frustrating!! Especially when I can't sleep because of the boyfriends snoring & come to the sofa to be kept awake by the kids!!

Frida Kahlo also has really smelly wind. Ugh! Her poop seems normal, and she's eating & drinking probably a little too well. I think she was not used to having food available all the time & is getting used to the fact that she won't go without here.

Silly kitties!!

Transfer scent. Stroke one then the other immediately. Change bedding (if they have a preferred spot to sleep).

Otherwise if there is no real hostility don't worry. We humans tend to read in human emotions and see paw swiping and chasing as agressive when actually it isn't.

I've been doing this since we got her, I guess she just needs more time. Like a typical cat owner, I know what's right, but I can't help but want it all to happen as soon as possible!!!
