A Plea for Help!!!

I have a new kitten, 14 weeks who has taken to weeing all over my house. Worst of all, he does it next to the litter tray!

We've recently changed litter trays from an open litter tray to an enclosed (house like) litter tray. I have one cat who used it straight away no problems, my youngest hates it and will not go in it!

Any tips on how to get him to use the new tray? we've taken the lid off it to make it appear more familiar, but this hasn't yet helped.

Thanks

Re: A Plea for Help!!!

What about 2 litter trays (gold standard is one for each cat and one extra - though that may not be practical if 1 bed flat)

Also try changing litter type - what was the kitten used to at breeder?

Kitten may get 'caught short' - see point 1

Could try Cat Attract litter if all else fails - worked for me (google it).

Re: A Plea for Help!!!

We did use two litter trays but found the one upstairs was just ignored. We've had the youngest for 2 months now, and it was never a problem until just recently!! Now he seems to intentionally do it as he'll seek out a particular spot, walk round it and squat!!

I'll try the googling.

Thanks

Make sure you clean the area with biological washing powder, or he will still smell it, and that will encourage him to go there again.

My male had a phase of weeing in a corner when we moved, I caught him at it once, sprayed him with water and put him in the litter box. he never did it again!

Re: A Plea for Help!!!

Try a totally different litter - ie if you have been using clumping try non-clumping or the Kitten Attract as someone has already mentioned. Also after cleaning the affected area try using some of this
Urine-Hater. Eliminates Urine & Pet Odours - £9.99 : Pinky Pawz - Simply ... the cats whiskers!, Pinky Pawz - Simply ... the cats whiskers!

Smile Re: A Plea for Help!!!

Hi all

Thank you for your suggestions, i shall see how it goes! At the moment, we were told to try doing 'punishment vs reward' to try and convince her to use the litter tray.

We have two kittens, one at 7 months (Rolo) and then 14 weeks (Wispa) . Rolo has always used the litter trays and has never had a problem, so when we came home with treats and he used the litter tray we gave him a catnip treat. Wispa who always wants what Rolo has, then went and used the litter tray and so we gave her a treat!

The only problem is, now they're both using the litter trays every half hour in the hope of another treat! Just waiting for the first 'whoopsie'!!
