Bringing in birds

I know its their nature and he means it in the nicest possible way but Flash has started bringing us dead ( or worse nearly dead) birds, he has a bell on his collar but if he is moving slowly then it doesn't really jingle! We have tried not letting him out first thing in morning and last thing at night when there are more birds around but he caught one yesterday in middle of day, I don't think it would be possible to keep him in as he is used to getting out and with 2 kids around the doors are usually open more than they are closed. Is there anything else we can try as the kids are getting uspet about it?

Re: Bringing in birds

Sorry but its just their nature to hunt - so we all just have to grin and bear it. At least you don't have to run around trying to catch the "presents" - i get live mice as well as a few birds.

Re: Bringing in birds

so far had 3 frogs - 2 dead and one had taken refuge in the cats' water bowl along with a slug. Released frog to wild bit of garden and popped slug in the compost heap.

Re: Bringing in birds

well this week has been quiet - but it's still early.

Total count for the past 6 weeks:

1 dead bird
1 eaten bird (loads of feathers found, no carcass 'cept for an internal organ)
2 live mice
1 dead mouse (found in one of my trainers - no idea how long it had been there)
1 baby sparrow (caught twice)
plus the mouse that has yet to be caught that escaped and now appears to live under our sink

& last thursday topped the lot. One live mouse - brought in by Lucky. One half dead mouse - brought in by Patch (who brought it in and out twice) - and then 10 mins later another half dead mouse from Patch (def a different one as Lucky was "guarding" the now dead mouse outside).

Wish they would catch the unknown animal living in my garage though.
