Is this normal behaviour?

We have a 13 week old kitten who has been with us around 2 weeks. In the last few nights he has been having a mad 20 minutes at around 9pm.

He runs madly around and then attacks anything he see's including us, his ears lay flat back and his pupils are huge. Once his mad moment has past he is fine again and we can stroke him etc but when he is going mad if we put our hands near him he bites us.

Is this usual and him just letting off steam or do we have a mad cat!!

Re: Is this normal behaviour?

The only thing that is abnormal is it only lasting 20minutes. Mine do it at least 3 times a day for what seems an eternity, especially at 5am

But yes, just random madness. One of mine is partial to jumping up door frames yet the rest of the time struggles to walk 5 metres without flopping over for a roll

Re: Is this normal behaviour?

Thanks guys, we had to shut him downstairs last night as he was attacking us in bed, we were both cowering under the duvet while he charged about and kept attacking our feet

Re: Is this normal behaviour?

Bog standard cat behaviour!!
One of my cats is a Brit.Sh.Hair..... big, fat, and so laid back he couldn't be any more horizontal. He's the perfect teacosy!
But then, every evening before I close the patio doors, and manoeuver the cats indoors out of the cat run, he has his "mad half hour". Yep. ears flat, and running like possessed up and down the length of the run, dashing up the wooden beams supporting hte run, and hanging upside down, swishing his tail, and looking totally "mad"..... and yes, if I reach for him, he swipes at my hands, and bites 'm..... not nastily mind you. This madness lasts on average 10minutes, and then it is like switching a light off, and he is back to being a perfect teacosy, and gives me one of his melting looks, and I can pick him up and he comes indoors for the evening/night.
Soooo, you'll just have to get used to it......

Re: Is this normal behaviour?

Definately normal... lol.
When we had Pumpkin on his own his was always at about 9pm and lasted about 30 mins but he had them throughout the day aswell, and he used to attack us in bed but it was through the duvet so we were safe lol.
Now we have Treacle aswell they both go mental around the house for about 30-40 mins a time and then collapse together hehe.
xx

Re: Is this normal behaviour?

This is also your kitty's way of trying to engage you in a game. You can chase you kitty and if/when you catch him give a quick stroke to show your not mad and run off yourself and hide. My one year old loves this game and we play it maybe twice a week. Also if you buy a laser pen he'll go nuts chasing the neon dot Have fun!!!
