Re: Litter training an 8/9 week old kitten...HELP
You need to confine her, and get back to basics. Can you borrow a large wire dog pen from somewhere, big enough for her to have a small, tray food and bed all in the space. Or confine her to a small room with no soft furnishings, bathroom, utility room. Just till she gets the idea of using the tray.
The sofa cushions need to be thoroughly washed, try something like urine off, to remove any remnance of smell left behind. They can smell stuff we can't, and the smell will attract her back to that spot each time. An alternative remedy to that is a white vinegar solution. If you can wash the covers in the washing machine, use usual detergent, add some napisan, then replace your fabric conditioner with white vinegar. When the cycle has finished re rinse and spin with usual fabric conditioner. A lot of kittens don't like the pellet litter. If you want a wood litter, that softer on the paws then try Oko Plus. Small bits, plus it clumps. There is a clay litter called Cat Attract, that has an added ingredient that attracts cats to wee in it. It does work, but clay litters aren't very good for little kittens, especially the clumping stuff. You can get the "ingredient" separately that you can add to your regular litter, that may help. Failing all that an alternative to keeping her from that spot on the sofa is a scat mat. Battery operated it sends out an adjustable shock when pressure is put on it. My friend has one infront of her front door, as she has a busy main road very near by and lives in fear of her boys escaping out. They give it a wide berth, one visit is enough. The levels aren't sufficient to hurt just feel very unpleasant.

Re: Litter training an 8/9 week old kitten...HELP
thats brilliant thankyou very much...im at the stage were im willing to try anythin.
i think i will try confining her to the bathroom 1st and see if that does the trick. someone advised me to put her waste in the tray & put her in it for a moment or so, so she knows were she should fo it. xx |

Another thing i would suggest is if you choose a room to confine her to, get 3 trays one with clay, one with wood pellets and one with recycled paper pellets.
Find out which one she prefers and go from there...all the other advice above is right on target!! |
