Why is my cat going to the toilet where the litter tray used to be?

Hi
We have a 3 month old daughter and we are hoping to cut down the number of litter trays in our house before she becomes mobile. Our cat is a 3 year old, spayed female and we recently took one litter tray away leaving 2 trays in our house. The trays are cleaned daily and topped up when needed. She is using the two remaining trays on a daily basis but is still occasionally going where the 3rd tray used to be. Can anyone suggest a reason for this and how i can get her to stop?

The cat might not yet realize the litter box is gone because she/he might still smell some litter there.

Try cleaning the area thoroughly with biological washing powder. The enzymes will break down any remaining traces of cat pee so it won't smell like a toileting area anymore to her. I heard on this forum that cats don't like citris smells so maybe using some sort of citris smelling cleaner as well might keep her away from that area. Good luck

The citrus smell thing is true. Mother in law´s cat tried to eat one plant of hers. I told her to slice a lemon in half and place that in the flower pot. The eating stopped immediately. And after a few days of lemon-treatment the cat never tired again...
