Calming Down

Hi, I'm just wondering at what age kittens normally start calming down at. Mikey is now 6 months and seems to sleep a lot more than normal. At first I was a bit concerned but he's happy and healthy eating great and using his tray etc. Do you think he's just becoming a wee cat now instead of the crazy kitten I once had hehe.

Re: Calming Down

He is probably sleeping more because he is growing which wears him out. I have a 10month old and a 14month old running around like tiny kittens, lol, but they are huge and like to destroy things.

Re: Calming Down

Has he been neutered? As mentioned above the growing can wear them out a bit but also they tend to be a bit nocturnal. If you are a heavy sleeper you wouldn't notice the 'wild' times!! lol They would then sleep most of the day away.

No he's not been neutered yet. i'm a light sleeper but he's not too bad at night normally goes to bed at same time as me and wakes up about 4 - 5. He's alone all day in house so i imagined he slept all day anyway. should i be keeping an eye on him? can they oversleep (if that makes sense). don't get me wrong he has his wild moments usually when am doing housework etc he seems to sleep if am just chilling. maybe he's copying my mood??

I would make an appointment to have him neutered and get the vet to have a look at him then! Once he recovers from the neuter then see how he is. Sometimes they can just have a quiet time of growth, usually just before they reach puberty.

This could also be a sign that he might start to pee in your house if he's coming up to man hood! Best to get him neutered now so he can settle down and be a lovely little man of the house. He'll soon come into his own.

Re: Calming Down

I noticed this with my two kittens at 6 months, they slept all day for about 2 weeks . Now they are both back to being crazed maniacs :-)
I have had both of mine done as well.

Re: Calming Down

I think he's probably just bored, given he's on his own all day, combined with having a growthy so to speak GG An hr in a 6 mth old kittens day is a long time so by the time he's amused himself,he's probably knackeredAnd agree,he's of an age where he should be neutered if not being a stud, you'll probably find this calms him down somewhat

yeah have to admit i think he is pretty bored too. it makes me feel quite guilty knowing he his home alone all day!! i do play with him when i am home but i think he's got that used to playing himself he sometimes doesnt take an interest!! I'm going to call vets on monday and get him booked him to be neutered.
