interesting kitten - kitten introduction woes

Hi there, first post on this forum so hello to everyone.

We brought a little black and white female moggy home 3 weeks ago in order to be a playmate for a pedigree siamese we'd reserved.

The moggy is about 5 months old we think. We introduced the 3 month old siamese boy to her last weekend. The siamese boy is very well adjusted and brave, and the initial meeting was good. The girl is significantly bigger than him and has since started paw batting him and chasing him around the house and wrestling him to the ground and generally being very rough with him.

A week after the introduction, and when in 'normal' mood they don't hiss, they touch noses and are generally fine together and will even take the occasional nap together. When the moggy gets into 'play' mood though, she still chases him around the house and pulls him down at every opportunity to wrestle him and bite him. It all gets a bit too much for him and he ends up whining and hissing and growling at her after their 'play' fights.

What should we do? I don't think she poses a danger to him - it very much looks like she is just having fun, but because she is significantly bigger than he is, it comes across as bullying, he doesn't like it one bit.

Any advice greatly appreciated!!

James / leeph

Re: interesting kitten - kitten introduction woes

Hi there. It sounds as if she is just letting your boy know that she is in charge and unless it comes to serious fur-flying, teeth and claws fighting I'd let them settle it themselves. Is the girl spayed yet? if not I'd get her done - it may help to settle her down.
Things can't be too bad if they will sleep together. They obviously don't hate each other it's just that your girlie likes to play rough

Re: interesting kitten - kitten introduction woes

ive had cats all my life and this is totally normal especially when theyre playfull kittens.
my 2 have the opopsite problem, my younger one is the more domninant one and puts poor danny in his place. they still have mad half ours every night when norman(the younger one) chases danny round the house and pounces on him. we just let them get on with it, and they soon settle down again
like lymorelynn says, unless it comes down to serious fur flying just let them be and the will sort most things out between themselves

Thanks for the reassuring replies guys.

She's not spayed yet, no. Is 5 months old a bit too young for spaying? She's seeing the vet tomorrow for second round of vaccinations so we'll ask the question.

Five months is a good time to get her spayed' Ask your vet when she goes for her injections. He may be willing to do your Siamese boy too but most vets like to leave it until about 5 months.
