Grooming

I'm looking for some tips with grooming my longhaired cat, he's 5 and very nervous, he loves being cuddled and stroked but if you touch his tummy he scratches and bites. This is worse when he is being groomed as he lashes out (has opened up two veins in my hands and I have several scars), but being a longhaired cat he needs grooming regularly especially as he has a hind leg missing and cannot always groom himself properly. I have spent loads on brushes and also bought a zoom groom (recommended by rescue centre) but he just bites this or bites you depending on what's closer, unfortunately its usually my hands, I have even wore gardening gloves but its hard to hold the brush and feel what you're doing and he still manages to get at you. I have Feliway diffusers but these don't seem to do anything for him and he doesn't go into a deep enough sleep for me to attempt it then either.

I don't want to have a professional do it and I don't want the vet to do it either, he's scared of people he doesn't know and I want to be able to do this myself.

Please help

Re: Grooming

Hiya Vic, something you could try which may help is a product called HP ANXIETY RELIEF you can get it in most good pet stores , the easiest way to give this to them is to put a few drops on a cat treat or on their food, its very safe to use as its herbal , it wont knock the cat out but def should chill them lol. i hope this helps and good luck, CHRIS.

Re: Grooming

Hiya hun,

have you ever tried to clip his claws? one way to get less hurt through the grooming x

Is it biting or just scratching? x

what about trying some calming solutions - like the stuff they say works for fireworks and anxiety problems x

I use a few drops of Bach's rescue remedy in their water or on their food if i encounter any problems x

maybe also leaving brushes out for him to get used to seeing xx

I'm sure others will have more idea's for you x
